Description
English: Erie County Sheriff's Headquarters, 10 Delaware Avenue at Church Street, Buffalo, New York, April 2021. Erected in 1938 to a design by Green & James, the building's aesthetic - a streamlined take on Monumental Neoclassicism that's heavily indebted to Art Deco - beautifully exemplifies the firm's signature aesthetic of the era in their designs for government and institutional buildings (the Kenmore-Tonawanda Municipal Building, completed two years prior, is another prime example). The building sports a series of tiered setbacks typical of Art Deco and a geometric crest relief facing Delaware Avenue, but most eyes are drawn to the deeply recessed frontal portion of the center pavilion, containing the main entrance topped by successive tiers of windows and framed by a stone surround with floral-pattern reliefs.
