Description
Español: Existen muchas manifestaciones cercanas de O´Higgins a la advocación de la Virgen del Carmen, como por ejemplo su asistencia junto a Carrera a las procesiones que se realizaban a la Virgen desde la Iglesia de San Agustín en Santiago. Años después bajo la misma devoción se reunió el sábado 14 de marzo de 1818 en la Catedral de Santiago junto con los patriotas, para pronunciar el voto de construir una iglesia a la Virgen del Carmen en el mismo campo de batalla, si les concedía el triunfo. Tras decretarse su construcción el 7 de mayo de 1818, el 15 de noviembre del mismo año se colocó y bendijo la primera piedra de la Capilla de la Victoria o Iglesia Votiva de Maipú en honor a la Carmelita.
