Description
Español: Escudo municipal de Barbate (Cádiz): ESCUDO CORTADO: 1º, de gules con un monte de oro sumado de una cruz llana, también de oro, cargado de una estrella de oro; 2º, de azur, con dos atunes de plata puestos en faja; y al timbre, corona ducal. El primer cuartel es la divisa del carmelo por ser Barbate villa de antigua vocación marinera y tener a la Virgen del Carmen por patrona, y los atunes por alusión a las famosas pesquerias de ellos que hay en este litoral, tan antiguas como lo acreditan las monedas fenicias que se decoran con la figura de estos peces. Todo ello, según Memoria suscrita por el especialista señor Delgado Orellana, que fue aprobada por el Ayuntamiento pleno en sesión extraordinaria de 14 de septiembre de 1981.[1]
