English: Interior before restoration.
The Belediye site (Google translated) has “Kurşunlu Complex is a work from the 16th century Ottoman period. It was built in 1517 by Çoban Mustafa Pasha, one of the viziers of the Ottoman Empire. According to the foundation record in the Topkapı Palace Museum Archive, all of the buildings in the complex, except the Great Caravanserai, were built by the vizier Çoban Mustafa Pasha between 1517 and 1525 and were probably completed in 1525. The architect of the Kurşunlu Complex is probably Acem Ali, who was the chief architect before Mimar Sinan. Acem Ali (also known as Acem Alisi or Esir Ali), whose real name is Alaeddin Ali Bey, was the first known chief architect in classical Ottoman architecture (1519-1537). The complex; It consists of a mosque, fountain, lodges (madrasa), training room, harem, imâret, mausoleum of Mevlevi sheikhs and two caravanserais.” The Turkish Wikipedia, though claiming the whole complex was by Sinan, adds a lodge part was at least for some time, till lodges were closed, used by a Mevlevi lodge. I earlier noted (source was lost) that only one caravanserai is listed as being by Sinan. I do not know what source to believe. Several parts of the complex are used for cultural purposes, like a meerschaum museum and short-term exhibitions. |
