Español: SARSCoV2 pertenece a la familia Coronaviridae, genero beta-coronavirus grupo 2b. Son virus del grupo IV de la clasificación de Baltimore. Es un virus con envoltura de un tamaño aproximado entre 100-160 nanómetros. La envoltura presenta unas espículas que se proyectan hacia el exterior formadas por trímeros de la glicoproteína S. En la envoltura se localizan la proteína E y la proteína M, esencial para el ensamblaje del virus. En el interior se localiza la nucleocápside helicoidal formada por el genoma del virus rodeado por la proteína N. El genoma consiste en una molécula de ARN mono cadena sentido positivo de unos 30 Kb. Su estructura es muy similar a la de una ARN mensajero, con su capuchón en el extremo 5´y su cola de poly adeninas en el extremo 3´. Los genes que codifican para las proteínas reguladores se sitúan en el extremo 5´y los que codifican para las proteínas estructurales (S, E, M, N) en el 3´. Los genes reguladores se organizan en dos marcos de lectura (ORF1 y ORF2), que darán lugar, entre otras proteínas, a las proteasa PLpro y 3CLpro, a la enzima ARN polimerasa dependiente de ARN (RdRp) y a la helicasa (Hel).
