As duas personagens são José da Silva Carvalho (está de pé, de frente para o espectador, em posição frontal contraposta, olhar a três quartos para a esquerda e ligeiramente para cima, apoiando a mão direita sobre a urna de voto coberta por pano vermelho adamascado e com a mão esquerda dentro do casaco pela gola, vestindo fraque castanho escuro e calças castanhas douradas) e João da Cunha Sotto-Mayor (está também de pé, de frente para o espectador, a três quartos para a esquerda, olhando na mesma direcção, com as mãos atrás das costas, vestindo fraque castanho dourado e calças cinzentas escuras). Assinado e datado no canto inferior esquerdo: "V. Salgado, 1920".
