Summary[edit]

Description

Visitors will find quiet picnic and camping sites in a shrub-steppe ecosystem at the Pacific Lake Recreation Site. Beautiful columnar basalt along the lake bed’s edge is visible from the site. A short distance from Pacific Lake, which has been dry since 2004, is the Lakeview Ranch Recreation Site with buildings and functional horse corrals that are usually available for trail horses overnight. Recreational activities include picnicking, camping, horseback riding, hunting, hiking/backpacking, wildlife watching, wildflower viewing, photography and natural history appreciation.

Know Before You Go: Entire area is open YEAR ROUND. There are picnic tables, grills and fire rings and one vault toilet at the Pacific Lake Recreation Site. No services or potable water are available. There is a seven-mile motorized recreation route restricted to on-trail riding only. There are several hiking trails within the recreation area. No Fees.

Directions: The Lakeview Recreation Area is located eight miles north of Odessa, Washington. Take Highway 21 north from Odessa, go five miles to Lakeview Ranch Road, turn left and travel three miles on a gravel road to Lakeview Ranch. There is also non-motorized access to the area from the west side of the town of Odessa on the Pacific Lake Trail. To reach the Odessa Trailhead/parking area, travel west on Hwy 28 through Odessa, go one block past N Alder St. and take a right, cross the train tracks and then turn left onto Alice Ave, continue down Alice Ave to the end of the road.

Point of Interest: There are a number of hiking trails in the area including the 12.5 mile Odessa to Pacific Lake Trail that winds through shrub-steppe uplands and the Lake Creek Canyon between the town of Odessa, Washington and Pacific Lake/Lakeview Ranch.
