Description
Deutsch: Der geschichtsträchtige Bereich war nahezu immer Grenzland. Hier stießen im Laufe der Zeit die Gebiete der Thüringer und Franken, der mainzischen, später preußischen Eichsfelder und der Hessen aneinander. Grenzstein von 1837 an der ehemaligen Grenze zwischen der preußischen Provinz Sachsen (vorher kurmainzisches Eichsfeld) und dem Kurfürstentum Hessen (vorher Landgrafschaft Hessen-Kassel).

Das 716 Hektar große Flora-Fauna-Habitat-Gebiet „Stein-Rachelsberg-Gobert“ mit der Nummer 4726-320 und der thüringeninternen Kennung 19 wird von den Höhenzügen und Steilhängen des Werraberglandes geprägt. Als bedeutsam angesehen werden die alt- und totholzreichen, naturnahen Waldmeister- und Orchideen-Buchenwälder, die Felsbänder sowie die Halbtrockenrasen und Wacholderheiden.

Die Waldflächen befinden sich vollständig im

  • EU-Vogelschutzgebiet 4626-420 „Werrabergland südwestlich Uder“,
  • Naturpark „Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal“ und
  • Landschaftsschutzgebiet „Obereichsfeld“.
