| Description |
The reefs of Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary lie on top of salt domes rising from the sea floor in the Gulf of Mexico. While the ecosystem of Stetson Bank, one site within the sanctuary, mostly supports algae and sponges, its tallest pinnacle is dominated by corals and is typically swarming with fish! Can you spot the spiny lobster, blackbar soldierfish, sergeant majors, and juvenile Spanish hogfish hanging out around the ten-ray star coral here? Photo Credit: Emma Hickerson/NOAA |
