Fading glory… An aluminum landing craft docked along the Magnetawan River. While now a fading and chipped drab and rather industrial grey colour, the residual red paint makes me wonder if this seemingly privately-owned utility / landing craft was originally used for more exciting purposes, perhaps fire rescue? That said, a long (and frustrating) internet search, revealed that the Magnetawan Fire department does not presently conduct water rescue, with no indication that it ever did. So, perhaps I’m overthinking this and the current or previous owner, simply liked red paint… 😊 Manufacturers of aluminum landing craft suggest that these work boats can be used for a vast range of tasks including spill recovery, waterway maintenance, and fire rescue. And certainly, variants of landing crafts are used throughout North America in fire rescue… Depending upon their size and focus of work, they can be outfitted with a variety of outboard motors - this particular one had two very large and very powerful outboard motors. Their large and stable hull afford the luxury of carrying a broad range of loads - both in size and weight. Moreover their bow ramp allows easy loading and unloading of equipment and utility vehicles. |
