| Description | This small, yet stately Greek Revival-style House is located on Fairmount Avenue atop Knox Hill in Cincinnati’s South Fairmount neighborhood. Likely dating to the 1840s or 1850s, this house was probably one of the first constructed on the hill following the subdivision of the land under the Fairmount Land Company, which was formed to fund the Fairmount Baptist Theological Seminary on the current site of St. Clair Heights Park. Though the house is historic, it does appear to have some cosmetic blemishes, including a cinderblock front porch that likely replaced the original wooden porch in the mid-20th Century. Today, this historic dwelling, like others in the Fairmount neighborhoods of Cincinnati, is not protected by historic preservation covenants or designation, and could be threatened in the future with demolition with limited recourse. The Greek Revival Buildings of the neighborhood like this one are significant, as they are characteristic of the neighborhood’s early development and include some very intact examples of the style. |
