Description
English: At first glance, this looks like an ordinary concretion. It even has glittery mica-looking flakes on the exterior. However, when opened - - - well, the first time I did, I couldn't help but laugh. I'm not sure if this "rock-us fake-us" specimen was intended to fool anyone, because the carved/molded trilobite is so silly-looking. Everything about this is fake - it's not rock, and it's not a fossil. I have a small collection of fake or artificial objects that pose as geologic samples - I find such things fascinating. Some fakes I've acquired over the years have gone into the trash because I was irritated. I was duped by a diamond-in-conglomerate once. The diamond was real and the conglomerate was real, but it had been glued in. I've also been fooled by a piece of petrified wood that was just painted plaster. I've also been scammed by a sample of Alaskan volcanic ash claimed to have been collected from a rooftop. It was river sand. It bubbled in acid, due to the calcite content. Volcanic ash never bubbles in acid.

This one - it's just so goofy. I like it.

I mean - really? A trilobite with arms and hands?
