Summary[edit]

Description

English: Digital terrain models of the surface of Mars can be derived with an accuracy of up to ten meters per pixel from the nadir channel, which is directed perpendicularly to the surface of Mars, and the stereo channels of the HRSC camera. In these color-coded representations, the absolute heights above a reference level, the areoids (derived from the Greek word for Mars, Ares), can be shown well. These height values can be read from the color scale at the top right of the image. The height differences shown in color clearly show the difference in height between the crater walls (ramparts) and the crater floor.
