Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Right femoral shaft fracture during bisphosphonate therapy for breast cancer: There is a short, transverse fracture of proximal shaft fracture with pre-existing thickening of the outer cortex. This signifies a previous stress fracture that has not yet been displaced which is later being displaced by more than the shaft width. The pre-existing fissure and thickening can best be seen after bone fixation (right image). There is also a left proximal femoral fracture with intramedullary nail already inserted. Images from left to right: computed tomography topogram of the pelvis and bilateral femur, volume rendering of the right femur, and postoperative X-ray of the right femur after bone fixation.
