Summary

[edit]
Description

Until 1982 "the Kessock Ferry" plied from South Kessock (Inverness Burgh) to North Kessock (Black Isle, Ross-shire). This was latterly jointly run by Inverness Town Council and Ross & Cromarty County Council (both became part of Highland Council in 1974)

The "Eilean Dubh", (small ro-ro, sort-of!!) the "Inbhir-Nis" (rotatating cage to carry vehicles) and latterly the "Rosehaugh" ( a larger much more modern ro-ro ferry) took vehicles and foot passengers across the (deceptively narrow looking) channel of the Beauly Firth. Then this pier was a busy place - with most Inverness Bus Services terminating there - especially on Sundays up until the 1960's when thirsty Invernessians could nip (sorry!) across from the "dry" (on Sundays) Burgh to the North Kessock Hotel for an alcoholic drink as bona-fide travellers.
