Description
English: Chert from the Pennsylvanian of Ohio, USA.

Chert is a cryptocrystalline, quartzose sedimentary rock. This sample is from the little-known Fishpot Chert, which occurs as nodules in a freshwater limestone interval. American Indian arrowheads made of Fishpot Chert have been reported in the literature, but are rare.

Stratigraphy: chert nodule in the Fishpot Limestone, Monongahela Group, Virgilian Series, upper Upper Pennsylvanian

Locality: Ramsey North Outcrop - roadcut on the eastern side of Jefferson County Road 6 (= Mt. Pleasant-Adena Road), just north of the "town" of Ramsey, Short Creek Valley, northwest of Mt. Pleasant & southeast of Adean, northern Mt. Pleasant Township, southern Jefferson County, eastern Ohio, USA (40° 11' 44.65" North latitude, 80° 50' 01.95" West longitude)
