Description
Deutsch: Demonstration der Flammenfärbungen durch Erhitzen von Natriumchlorid in der Flamme eines Bunsenbrenners. Durch Anregung wird sichtbares Licht Element-spezifischer Wellenlängen freigesetzt, was als Nachweis für Natrium dienen kann. Die extrem intensiv gelbe Flammenfarbe des Natriums kann die Färbungen durch andere Ionen leicht überdecken, wenn Natrium als Verunreinigung vorhanden ist. Die Natriumflamme ist durch ein Stück blaues Kobaltglas betrachtet nicht sichtbar; dieser Umstand kann genutzt werden, um die Färbung durch Natrium-Verunreinigungen herauszufiltern. Die intensive, gelbe Spektralbande des Natriums (Natrium-D-Linie, 589 nm) wird außerdem als "warmweiße" Lichtquelle in Natriumdampflampen und als Referenz in der Polarimetrie genutzt.
English: Demonstration of flame colors used in the flame test by heating sodium chloride in a Bunsen burner flame. Excitation of electrons causes release of electromagnetic radiation whose wavelengths are element-specific. In some cases, these wavelengths fall into the visible spectrum, making them useful as a test for certain elements, in this case sodium. The extreme intensity of Sodium's yellow color can easily overpower the coloring caused by other ions if sodium is present as an impurity. The intense yellow band in sodium's spectrum (Sodium D line, 589 nm) is made use of in sodium vapor lamps, which give a warm yellowish light, as well as a reference in polarimetry.
