La señalización de FSH es necesaria para el desarrollo de folículos durante la transición preantral a antral. La unión de FSH a FSHR puede activar los GC células granulosa tanto de manera independiente como dependiente de cAMP.
Tras la unión de FSH, FSHR recluta G y AC, lo que conduce a la activación de la vía cíclica de AMP/proteína quinasa A (cAMP/PKA).
Alternativamente, PI3K/AKT se puede activar tras la interacción de FSHR con APPL1. A través de la fosforilación, PI3K/AKT inhibe directamente FOXO1A, lo que conduce a la regulación al alza de los genes regulados por FOXO implicados en la proliferación celular.

Además, la activación de PI3K/AKT de Ca 2+conduce a un aumento en la concentración de calcio intracelular, que es crucial para la selección y dominancia del folículo.
