| Description |
English: Built in 1925, this Egyptian Revival-style building was designed by Thomas P. Barnett of Barnett, Haynes and Barnett to house the University Masonic Lodge. In 1937, the Masonic Lodge merged with the Anchor Hall Association, and became known as the Anchor Temple Association, which remained in the building until the 1970s. The building features a limestone-clad exterior with a stepped pyramidal roof, Egyptian-style columns, casement windows, decorative metal balconies, a front pediment, decorative Egyptian motifs, a Pylon-style front entrance vestibule, and two low wings to the east and west with gabled roofs. The building is a contributing structure in the University Heights Subdivision Number One Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and today houses the Church of Scientology. |
