| Description |
English: The former Hasselbeck Cheese Company, 594 Jefferson Avenue at George Street, Buffalo, New York, August 2020. A two-story industrial building of no stylistic distinction, the notable architectural features here are essentially limited to a pair of ornamental urns atop the roof, flanking a low, stepped parapet. The roots of the Hasselbeck Cheese Company stretch back to 1885, when erstwhile grocer and tavernkeeper Martin Hasselbeck branched out into the exciting world of cheese production and sales; by 1904, business was booming on a sufficient level for construction to have begun on the factory seen here. Hasselbeck was bought out by Borden Foods in 1936, who continued operating Hasselbeck as a division of its operations through the late 1960s. It's now storage space for the Ferguson Electric Company. |
