Summary[edit]

Description
English: The former Central Park Station of the New York Central Railroad Buffalo Belt Line, 10 Starin Avenue at Amherst Street, Buffalo, New York, July 2020. Of the 19 former stations of the Belt Line railroad, each spaced one mile apart along its trajectory circumnavigating the city, this is the only one that remains extant; a wood-framed Queen Anne-style building erected in 1883 with a distinctive octagonal turret. The wrought-iron railing leading down the brick driveway is original too. In addition to the primary purpose of the Belt Line as a commuter railroad, the station was also heavily used for freight purposes by the Buffalo Cement Company to ship limestone from the nearby Bennett quarry to market (an alternate name for the station was the Bennett Station). Passenger service on the Belt Line ended in the 1920s (though the tracks are still used by CSX as a bypass around downtown Buffalo on the way to and from the Canadian border), and the building served as a Boy Scout retreat until after World War II (it was the Scouts who built the addition to the building seen at right). It's now a private residence and home office.
