Description
English: Fossil wood from the Miocene of Montana, USA.

Permineralization is a common preservation style for fossil wood - it is frequently nicknamed "petrified wood". Permineralization refers to the small-scale porosity of wood or bone being filled with minerals as groundwater percolates through after burial. The most common permineralization mineral is quartz.

Stratigraphy: Timber Hill Basalt, Sixmile Creek Formation, upper Upper Miocene, ~6.0 Ma

Locality: unrecorded site near the town of Dillon, eastern Beaverhead County, southwestern Montana, USA
