Summary
[edit]DescriptionFossiliferous limestone (Nada Member, Borden Formation, Lower Mississippian; Interstate-64 roadcut north-northeast of Morehead, Kentucky, USA) (45924749732).jpg |
Fenestrate bryozoan in fossiliferous limestone in the Mississippian of Kentucky, USA. The Borden Formation is a significant unit in the Lower Mississippian of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. It represents an ancient deltaic succession. Prodeltaic, delta front, and delta top deposits are present in the Borden. Named members in eastern Kentucky include (from bottom to top) the Henley Member (or Henley Bed), Farmers Member, Nancy Member, Cowbell Member, and Nada Member. This rock is from a Nada outcrop near Morehead, Kentucky. The unit is shale rich, but also has interbeds of fossiliferous limestone. Observed fossils include crinoids, fenestrate bryozoans, and brachiopods. Some glauconite-rich horizons are present, including apparent glauconitites (>50% glauconite content). Stratigraphy: Nada Member, upper Borden Formation, Osagean Stage, upper Lower Mississippian Locality: roadcut along the southern side of Interstate 64, just east of milepost 146 & just east of the Route 799 overpass bridge, north-northeast of the town of Morehead, Kentucky, USA |
