Description
English: Plaque at the entrance to the Foster Bolitho Gardens, between Newlyn and Penzance. In 1897 the area between the Lariggan and Newlyn Coombe rivers was in Madron parish. There had been decades of storm erosion and it made financial sense for the Bolitho family to sell the land. The Bedford Bolitho Gardens was on the eastern side of the Lariggan river and was destoyed by the Ash Wednesday Storm in 1963. The plague commemorates the 60th year of Queen Victoria's reign (1897) and the tercentenary of the Borough of Penzance (1914).
