Description
English: Mandatory ligatures in German blackletter type-setting. The examples read "Buchdruckerkunst" (art of book printing), "Setzkasten" (type case), and "Maß" (measure). Note how some ligatures are maintained, even in spaced setting. They are ch, ck, tz and sz (=ß).

Note on the st-ligatures: I'm not sure if the st-ligature in "Setzkasten" is set properly. Whereas the example "Buchdruckerkunst" is taken from the article "Fraktur" in Brockhaus' Konversations-Lexikon, 14. Aufl., 7. Bd, F.A. Brockhaus in Leipzig, 1893, Seite 22.

This image was set in 28pt Kleist-Fraktur.
