Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Frederick Reinhardt House, 73 Winspear Avenue at Northrup Place, Buffalo, New York, September 2022. A contributing property to the NRHP-listed University Heights-Summit Park-Berkshire Terrace Historic District, the c. 1914 Reinhardt House is an example of the then-popular Arts & Crafts school of architecture that is remarkably well-developed by comparison with its neighbors. The requisite low-slung dimensions, façadal asymmetry, and overhanging eaves undergirded by exposed rafter tails and knee-brace brackets are all plainly evident, and the delightful "cottage garden"-style landscaping bolsters the style's philosophy of blurring the boundaries between the natural and artificial. The house was built for Frederick Reinhardt (1872-1931), who at the time worked as an assistant manager at the local branch of the Pullman Car Works. Reinhardt lived in the house until his death, as also did his widow Bertha (1869-1969) and son Frederick (1905-1991) until their respective deaths.
