Object history Provenance: Consul General Johan Hansen had in his collection a painting with the title “Parti fra Schwartzwald” (View of the Black Forest). This was presumably sold at auction (Winkel & Magnussen, no 32 in 1925, lot no. 135) with the title “Landskab fra Tyrol” (Tyrolean Landscape). Auctioned at Bruun Rasmussen Auctions on March 4, 2019; not sold (Lot 1910/25).
Exhibition history The Hirschsprung Collection, “Sødring. Borgruiner og vilde vandfald”, 2000–2001 no. 26, reproduced as no. 26.
Inscriptions

Signature and date bottom left:

F Södring 1841
Notes Period frame. A contemporary plaque on the frame reads: “F. Sødring 1842 / Charlottenborg”. It does not seem to match any description of a Sødring painting exhibited at the 1842 Charlottenborg Exhibition, where he did submit a painting from Tyrol, except it depicted “A waterfall near Eisenbergerklamm in Tyrol” (no. 171).
