Deutsch: Der Dargestellte sitzt nach links gewandt, mit stoischem, nachdenklichen Ausdruck. Er trägt einen Frack, unter dem die rot-grüne Schärpe des St. Stephans-Ordens deutlich zu erkennen ist - dieser Orden war die höchste Auszeichnung der Monarchie. Ritter von Schmerling stützt seinen rechten Arm auf einen Schreibtisch, auf dem Bücher und Schriftstücke ausgebreitet sind. Er hält eines der Bücher aufgeschlagen in der Hand. |
