Deutsch:

The area around northern Potsdamer Strasse and Bülowstrasse has been known for prostitution since the 19th century. Beginning in the 1980s, the Berlin police put increasing pressure on the bar and café owners in the area not to tolerate any prostitution (or prostitutes) in their establishments, with the idea of "driving out" prostitution from the area. The result was that instead the sex work took place outdoors by rain or shine, in Summer or Winter. The Steh Café Froben on the corner of Frobenstrasse and Bülowstrasse was one of the few remaining opportunities for people to warm up with an inexpensive cup of coffee or tea. The owner also allowed the sex workers to use the café's toilet, despite the considerable extra work for the owner. You could also buy essentials at Steh Café Froben; from paper handkerchiefs, to lighters, or condoms, to diapers. The neighbors from the building would often drop by for a cup of coffee or a beer. Now the café is gone.
