English: These custom brackets will accept 1¾ inch steel tubing so I can mount things in front of the bumper.
Each of the Suburban's tow hooks are bolted to the frame in a way that seems almost like it was designed to be used for aftermarket brackets like these. The brackets are 2 inch steel tubing welded to steel plates that are secured between the tow hooks and the frame. Each bracket features cross holes with a nut welded on one side of the tube so telescoping support members can be bolted securely to the brackets. The bracket tubing walls are 0.090 inches thick. I would have preferred 0.120 inches, but the thicker walls would not allow easy telescoping of 1¾ inch steel tubing. I'm not sure I trust the thin walled tubing for a single bracket, but these brackets will always be used in tandem, which I think will make them more reliable. |
