| Description |
The illuminated track diagram suspended from the ceiling in Fryston signal box. Saturday 18th April 1987 Fryston South signal box was located by the Down Main line backing onto Wheldon Road in Fryston, and was a North Eastern Railway Type S4 design fitted with a 30 lever McKenzie and Holland Number 16 frame which opened in 1906, replacing an earlier signal box located a few yards to the west. The signal box was renamed Fryston in September 1963 after the closure of Fryston North signal box, and closure came on 26th April 1987 when Castleford Station and Milford became adjacent signal boxes The Down and Up Main lines were renamed Down and Up Normanton lines on 20th November 1983 On the block shelf is (left to right) a North Eastern Railway block bell from/to Milford signal box, a North Eastern Railway block bell from/to Castleton Station signal box and a London and North Eastern Railway absolute block instrument from/to Castleford Gates signal box Signalling between Castleford Station and Fryston signal boxes was converted from absolute block to track circuit block on 20th November 1983 but the block instrument was retained as when Castleford Station signal box was switched out of circuit signalling between Castleford Gates to Fryston signal boxes reverted to absolute block |
