Summary[edit]

Description
English: Fumaroles are hot steam vents. When the water table is high, they may spit or spout water. High-energy fumaroles are noisy - their roaring can be heard miles away sometimes.

Seen here is a fumarole in the eastern Fountain Group of Yellowstone's Lower Geyser Basin. Yellowstone's main road used to go through here and was rerouted after multiple fumaroles emerged decades ago. Remnants of the old road are still present - for some reason, they were not entirely removed. The flat-topped rock above this fumarole looks suspiciously like an old road remnant, but I'm not sure.

The park service used to have a sign here that said "A Fumarole". Because the feature is unnamed, some folks started referring to this as "A" Fumarole (jokingly suggesting that "B" Fumarole and "C" Fumarole are nearby).
