Description
George Maetzel (7/31/1838-5/25/1891) was born in Zittau, Saxony in 1837. In 1863, he sailed for America. He lived in Rhode Island, New York, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before removing to Ohio in 1869. He opened an engineer's and architect's office at the corner of Town and Front Streets in Columbus. He designed several buildings in Columbus including the City Prison, County Infirmary, Hoster's and Schlee's breweries, and the Franklin County Courthouse. His wife was Lillie Andriessen.
