Summary[edit]

Description
English: The George M. Hausauer House, 184 Richmond Avenue, Buffalo, New York, February 2022. A contributing property to the NRHP-listed Elmwood West Historic District, the Hausauer House is described in official documentation as a Queen Anne-style residence, but - with its steeply pitched cross-gabled roof, asymmetrical façade, inconspicuous off-center entrance, and overall minimalist detailing - looks for all the world like a very early forerunner of the Tudor Revival style that wouldn't be out of place in a suburban tract development of the 1930s or '40s. The house was built c. 1881 as a speculative venture by the contracting firm of W. I. Williams & Son, and over the next few years was widely advertised in local newspapers for sale or rent. Its first recorded owner is George Hausauer (1853-1920), namesake head of the printing firm of Hausauer & Jones, who lived there from 1884 until 1904.
