Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Georgia Forman House, at 77 Oakland Place. Built in 1928 from a design by the firm of E. B. Green & Son, the first one on the street, the two-and-a-half-story mansion sports walls of roughly hewn Onondaga limestone and a nearly symmetrical façade featuring Tudor-inspired finials with Ionic volutes, as well as four massive stone chimneys anchoring the corners of the roof. The wide Gothic arch on the north side of the façade, seen at left here, leads to a five-car garage with a rear apartment above. The house was built for Georgia Greene Forman, former wife of Howard Forman, who made his fortune with the Eastern Oil Company in the oil fields of northern Pennsylvania. Mrs. Forman lived in this house for 24 years, until 1952, when, shortly before her death at an advanced age, she sold the building to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo for use as the residence of the Bishop of Buffalo. The diocese sold the house in 2019 to a private owner.
