Description |
Auf dem Gemälde ist ein in der niederländischen Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts sehr beliebtes Motiv der griechischen Mythologie dargestellt: Die Jagd auf den Kalydonischen Eber. Als ein Eber in hatte Kalydon große Verwüstungen angerichtet hatte, forderte man die berühmtesten griechischen Helden auf, sich an einer Jagd auf das Tier zu beteiligen. Zur Jagd kamen auch der Königssohn Meleager und die Jägerin Atalante. Da sie dem Tier die erste Verwundung zugefügt hatte, übergab der in Atalante verliebte Meleager ihr die Jagdtrophäe. |
