English: Daniele Tilotta, Giorgia Luzi, Giant hermit crab (Pagurus), August 2015, San Vito lo Capo (Trapani, Sicilia, Italy), compact camera with waterproof case
It is a giant specimen of Pagurus. They are usually some cm long, but this one is of the order of 10 cm amazingly. It has been found at about 2 metres deep and taken with care in apnea without technical equipment. We have chosen these peculiar photos because they focus on its big dimensions, its movement so curious and human while it is rubbing its eyes, the bright colours of its exoskeleton, but also its shyness in the last click.English: Giant hermit crab (Pagurus), August 2015, San Vito lo Capo (Trapani, Sicilia, Italy), compact camera with waterproof case. |
