Description
English: Tympanum of a funerary monument in the Römisch-Germanisches Museum in Cologne
Deutsch: Giebel eines römischen Grabtempels. Fundort: Köln, Luxemburger Straße, heutiger Standort, Römisch Germanisches Museum in Köln. Das Giebelfeld stellt zwei ziegenfischartige Wesen dar, die eine stilisierte Weltkugel halten. Die Darstellung galt als Sinnbild des römischen Sternkreiszeichens des Steinbocks, unter dem auch Kaiser Augustus (* 63 v. Chr. + 14. nach Christus) geboren wurde. Wohlhabende Römerfamilien schmückten nach dem Tod des Augustus die Grabstätte eines verstorbenen Angehörigen mit diesem Zeichen, damit dieser auch nach dem Tod in der Nähe des in Ewigkeit göttlichen Augustus sein würde.
