Description
English: Gingee fort or Senji fort lies in Villupuram district, 160 kms from Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is close to Puducherry. The Great Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji ranked it as the most impregnable fortress in India. It was originally built by Ananta Kon of the Konar dynasty around 1190 AD. The fort is built at a hieght of 800 ft and is a structural marvel. Today it is maintained by the ASI and is famous tourist destination of the state.
