Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Daring Burglars Attack Railway Station

Clifton, Tuesday. The Clifton railway station was broken into on Saturday night, and an attempt made to rob the safe. An entry was gained by the burglars breaking the glass in a window, and pushing back the fastenings. The brasswork covering the lock of the safe was damaged by some blunt instrument, and an endeavor was made to force the safe open, but in this the men were unsuccessful. The safe is bolted to the floor, and consequently could not be removed with out considerable trouble.

A candle was used by the intruders to conduct operations, and judging by the grease left on the floor they were some time at work. No footprints could be found outside of the building, as the heavy rain which fell on Sunday night had obliterated all traces. Some marks, evidently finger-prints, were, however, found on the bottom of the window-sash. These were cut out by the police and forwarded to the Finger-print Department at Sydney. First-class Constable Connor, of Clifton, has the matter in hand, but up to the present no arrest has been made.
