English: The Gorakhnath temple is located near the Shah Kalin Durbar i.e. Prithvi Narayan Shah's Durbar located in Gorkha district. Gorakhnath is worshiped as the most important of the 108 incarnations of Mahadev. The origin of Gorakhnath is believed to have first appeared on this earth from the Gorkha cave. Gorakhnath appeared in a place called Peshawar in Pakistan during the Satya Yuga. It is mentioned that it happened in Gorakhpur to North West Gorakh Mandali in Tretayuga.
In Nepal, during the reign of King Narendra Dev, there was an incident of no rain for 12 years during the asana of the serpent. The idol of Gorakhnath is inside the cave on the south side of Gorkha Durbar. The important feature here is the cave. There is also Paduka of Gorakhnath here. Devotees have great faith and trust in the statue of Shri Gorakhnath Baba. Gorakhnath has achieved success by considering Machhindranath as his guru. In Gorakhnath temple, there is a tradition of offering one loaf of rice flour bread on every full moon day. Regarding Gorakhnath, there is a legend that King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha reached the cave of Gorakhnath while playing in his childhood. |
