Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Igneous dikes are planar to irregularly-planar igneous intrusions that cut across country rocks. They can be thin or extremely thick & they can be vertical or obliquely-oriented. Dikes are composed of various lithologies - examples include granite, pegmatite, aplite, andesite, basalt/diabase, lamprophyre, minette, rhyolite. In this specimen, the igneous dike is composed of granite, a felsic, phaneritic, intrusive igneous rock dominated by the minerals quartz (= grayish) and potassium feldspar (= pinkish-orangish-reddish). The pistachio green mineral is epidote.
