Description
English: Graphic granite from the Precambrian of Russia.

Whitish-gray = potassium feldspar Dark gray = quartz

Graphic granite, also known as runic granite or runite, has an odd but distinctive type of crystalline texture. Graphic granites are typically bimineralic and consist of interpenetrating crystals of quartz and potassium feldspar. The resulting texture somewhat resembles ancient writing (“graphic”). Observed examples resemble Cuneiform, Hebrew, or Arabic writing. These rocks occur in pegmatitic granite intrusions.

Geologic unit & age - apparently from a Paleoproterozoic granite pegmatite intrusion, Belomorian Terrane (Kola Province), Baltic Shield (Fennoscandian Shield)

Locality: Enskoye, east of Kovdor, ~257 km west of the town of Apatity in the southwestern Kola Peninsula of far-northwestern Russia
