Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Graphic granite from the Cambrian of Ethiopia. (~5.7 centimeters across at its widest)

Whitish-gray = potassium feldspar (KAlSi3O8) Dark gray = quartz (SiO2) Greenish = amazonite feldspar (KAlSi3O8)

Graphic granite, also known as runic granite or runite, has an odd but distinctive type of crystalline texture. Graphic granites are typically bimineralic and consist of interpenetrating crystals of quartz and potassium feldspar. The resulting texture somewhat resembles ancient writing (“graphic”). Observed examples resemble Cuneiform, Hebrew, or Arabic writing. These rocks occur in pegmatitic granite intrusions.

Geologic unit: unrecorded / undisclosed igneous body in the Kenticha Pegmatite Field, Early Cambrian, 530 Ma

Locality: unrecorded / undisclosed site south of the town of Konso, western Sidamo Province, southern Ethiopia
