Summary

[edit]
Description Native, warm season, perennial, erect to decumbent herb 13–50 cm tall, with glands on leaves, bracteoles and sepals, topped on all parts except the corolla by a glabrescent glandular indumentum. Stems have aerenchyma, often root at base and have a faint bad smell when crushed. Leaves are opposite, sessile, 3-veined, ovate to lanceolate, 0.8–3 cm long and stem-clasping; margins are toothed to nearly entire. Flowers are solitary, rarely 2, in bract axils, on pedicels 8–26 mm long. Corolla is tubular, obscurely zygomorphic 5–9 mm long, white to pink with yellow in the mouth. Flowering is in spring and summer. Grows in damp areas (e.g. stream and lagoon banks), such as the silted gully area above the dam in Dungog Common. Poisonous to livestock.
