Description
English: Grave stele. Pentelic marble. Found in Athens. The stele has the form of a ‘naiskos.’ The name and the age of the dead Telesphoros, son of Eukarpos, of Miletos, are inscribed on the horizontal cornice of the pediment. In the inscription of the peristyle, the dead man himself speaks in sorrow of his death. Telesphoros is depicted as a nude hero, holding the reins of his horse. On the pediment a dog chases a hare.
