19 September 2010. On the southbound platform of Tottenham Hale mainline station. Destinations include Cambridge, Stansted Airport, London's West End or Liverpool Street and Stratford. The building outside is Emily Bowes Court - student accommodation run by Unite. For both students and Unite, proximity to the station is the obvious attraction. It will be even closer should any more public money be spent trying to get the expensive and unneeded "Green Link", bridging Watermead Way and the railway line. (And which has cast a planning blight on Down Lane Park..) ═════════════════════════════════════ But let's look on the bright side. The "Green Link" is a comic highlight from a long-running farce, the Tottenham Hale Urban Centre Masterplan. Its well-loved catch phrase - "kickstart the regeneration of Tottenham Hale" is sure to provoke laughter among local residents lucky enough to be paying. It followed the same hilarious formula as shows like "Cultural Quarter". And isn't that old chestnut due for a revival? Especially given the total lack of new and original ideas in what is jokingly known as "Regeneration" in Haringey. ___________________________________ If you enjoyed this comment you may also like: § This is not a bridge . . . but could have been. Wasting public money with surrealism. § Make-believe 'village' across the Park. Can you find the hidden picture clues and guess what a real Green Link looks like? Then you won't have to hire a consultant to tell you. |
