Description

Taken from a coach window, just after crossing the border, en route between Zakopane and Berlin. Dederon = DDRon This wonderfully maintained neon sign was probably deliberately close to the Polish-German border at Guben, formerly WIlhelm-Pieck-Stadt-Guben, to boast to visitors of the famous Nylon product produced there....Chemiefasern der DDR itenational anderkannt.. Dederon was a Nylon 6 polyamide. Also produced in Rudolstadt by a branch of the VEB Chemiefaserwerk Wilhelm Pieck, who was born in Guben when it spanned the Oder. Wilhelm-Pieck-Stadt-Guben was a familiar sign on long-distance express railway carriages of the Deutsche Reichsbahn which terminated there at the border. Grusutin is a polyester fibre still produced today by Märkische Faser in Premniz near Berlin.

Chemiefaser Guben, orginally part of the Schwarza combine, was taken over by Hoechst, becoming Hoechst Guben GmbH. Now, the firm is titled Trevira GmbH, a branch of the Bobingen firm.
