Aquí se muestra a uno de los soldados de Nicolás de Piércola como un personaje desgarbado, de baja estatura, aspecto timorato y ciertos rasgos simiescos, contrario a la imagen de un guerrero dispuesto a dar batalla hasta el final. Luego de las victorias de Tacna y Arica, El Ferrocarrilito, así como una buena parte de la clase política y opinión pública chilena, eran firmes partidarios de iniciar cuanto antes la expedición a Lima con el objeto de derrotar definitivamente al Perú." |
