Summary[edit]

Description
English: Kori Rotti is a spicy and delectable Mangalorean dish. In Tulu, ‘kori’ translates to chicken and ‘rotti’ refers to crispy dry rice wafers that are about 1 mm thick. The red chilli-coconut milk based curry is usually made with chicken, but can also be substituted with paneer, soya chunks or tender jackfruit. Jackfruit, also known as ‘gujje’ or ‘pelakai’ in Tulu, is said to be the first edible fruit in use in the Indian subcontinent. There are two main types: Barke (jackfruit with thick carpels) and Tuluve (jackfruit with soft, pulpy carpels). Of these, the Barke type is preferred to make vegan Kori Rotti. This dish is traditionally made at special feasts called ‘Thammana’ for special guests. Kori Rotti can now be found at almost every Mangalorean home and restaurant.
